Lactate Test

The lactate test is one of the main functional evaluation tests used to analyze an athlete’s fitness level. It consists of a step test with increasing intensity until reaching the maximum sustainable intensity.

During the test, at the end of each step, we collect data on heart rate, power and/or pace per kilometer, and lactate levels. These data allow us to calculate LT1 (aerobic threshold) and LT2 (anaerobic threshold) values and to set the correct training zones for the athlete.

The test can be performed in the lab for cyclists and on the track for runners and triathletes. This test is conducted at the beginning of training to set training paces and is repeated during the season to monitor the athlete’s physical condition and make any necessary adjustments to the training program.

We use the results to optimize performance and ensure that athletes are training in the most effective zones to improve their aerobic and anaerobic capacity.

OTB’s initial assessment tests are essential for determining the athlete’s starting point, understanding their characteristics, and tracking progress.

During the introductory consultation, we agree on the optimal type of test based on the athlete’s and staff’s needs. The evaluation includes an anthropometric assessment, which covers weight, height, skinfold measurement, BMI calculation, body fat percentage, and body circumference measurements.

These initial data are crucial for providing accurate comparisons in subsequent tests and ensuring a personalized and effective training program.
